Cosmetic Dentistry

Dental hygiene is an important part to keeping your whole mouth healthy and fresh. Hygiene is an effective way to prevent future cosmetic dentistry. When choosing between a manual brush and an electronic toothbrush, keep in mind that an electronic toothbrush pulsates around several thousand times in one minute, creating the ultimate cleansing experience for your mouth. You must ensure, however, that each tooth receives adequate attention when brushing. When choosing your toothpaste, first you must know why it is important.

Toothpaste removes plaque and food left behind. It also helps fight against tooth decay and helps to protect the enamel. Some ways to help you find what toothpaste is right for you are flavour, colour, abrasives, thickeners, humectants, and detergents. Flavour and colour is important because you don't want to make the task of brushing seem like a chore. Abrasives are added to the paste to clean teeth and prevent discolouring. The abrasives must be coarse enough so that no harm is done to the enamel. Thickeners and humectants are added to the paste to give it the texture and ensure the paste does not dry out before it’s used.

Detergents are used to help remove plaque as well, but also to give you fresh healthy breath. While fluoride is vital in protecting against tooth decay, too much fluoride can cause tooth staining. When children use toothpaste with too much fluoride present, their permanent teeth can grow in with stains already on them. Another important part to dental hygiene is flossing. When you floss, you are removing plaque and food bits that are lodged between the teeth. This can set up cavities and lead to tooth decay and loss of teeth.

It is important to remove as much plaque as possible when brushing/flossing for the over all health of your mouth. Another vital part to dental hygiene is using mouth wash. The basic mouth was cleanses your whole mouth, not just your teeth. When you rinse with mouth wash, you are removing bacteria from the tongue, top of the mouth, gums, and jaws which ensures total mouth care and health. Taking care of your mouth and breath will result in overall feeling jubilant and refreshed.
